Students will have many writing projects at various levels in each chapter of the book in formal language lessons, such as essays, letters, poetry, and opinion. Therefore they will need to study certain aspects of the development of the skills to write on the class. A textbook is one of the resources that may assist both educators and learners in the pedagogy and learning process. Textbooks have an important role in the pedagogy and learning processes. With the wear studies documented, this study focuses on the examination of the writing task in the book of English textbook. The goal of this research was to find, count, and explain how the writing assignments in the textbook match to the writing tasks suggested by I. S. P. Nation's theory. The study's purpose is to uncover and explain how the sort of writing assignment offered in the textbook corresponds to the type of writing task suggested by Paul Nation's theories.
The study used qualitative research with a content analysis technique. Based on Louis Cohen (2007) the study process of data analysis technique through content analysis is as follows: (1) Selecting, (2) classification, (3) analyzing, and (4) Inference. To calculate the results of data results, the researcher calculates percentages using Arikunto's quality categorization schema. The data obtained from the English textbook “Think Globally Act Locally” for Ninth grade of Junior High School.
Based on I.S.P Nation Theory on English textbook, analyze found that the types of writing tasks, namely: experience tasks, guided tasks, and independent Task. But, none of the writing task supplied by this textbook suit the sorts of shared tasks. The dominant of writing task way found on this English textbook was guided task (51.7%).
