Speaking is one of the important skills in English teaching because speaking helps to developed knowledge about grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Furthermore, if speaking skills exercise often applied it may improve fluency to speak like a native speaker. English teaching with speaking ability can apply by using games. The one kind of game called miming game. Miming game is the game that use bodies to mime and express gesture to delivered words or sentences without speaking.
The design of the research was a quasi-experimental with quantitative approach. The researcher tooks two groups as sample, consists of experimental class and control class. The researcher gave pre test to both classes. The experimental class was taught by using miming game, meanwhile the control class was taught without using miming game. The researcher gave post-test to the both the both classes to collect data. The data was analyzed by using statistical analysis with t-test.
After the data analyzed by statistic, the result shows that tvalue was 1,016 and ttable was 1,673. It means that tvalue (1,016) lower than ttable (1,673). Because of tvalue ≥ ttable, so the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of miming game is not effective to teach students’ speaking skills at the eight grade at MTs. Negeri Model Samarinda.
