This research is under guidance of Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor and Nadia Sya’ya, M.Pd., M. TESOL. as the second advisor. In this research the researcher examined the correlation between vocabulary mastery and ability in translating English text into Indonesian at the fourth semester students of English department of IAIN Samarinda. The aim of the research was to find out whether or not there is any significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ translating ability. The researcher hopefully that the result of the research will be useful to give some contributions to English language teaching and learning. This research can be categorized as quantitative correlation method which studies the correlation between two or more variables. In this research, the researcher examined the relationship between two variables: variable X (vocabulary mastery) and variable Y (ability in translating). The population of this research is the fourth semester of English language education at IAIN Samarinda and that around 369 students. The researcher took 59 students as a sample by applying sampling technique. Based on the data statistical research, the research was found that (rxy) = 0,90. It was consulted to table of correlation coefficient that is can be concluded that there is very high correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ ability in translating English text into Indonesian (at the fourth semesters of English department students of IAIN Samarinda.
