Currently, the utilization of media and instruments as facilities for the acquisition of the English language has progressed, particularly with the advent of technology, which aids in the enhancement and augmentation of the experience of learning English. Various tools for online learning, including Google Translate, enable the provision of assistance to students in the translation of languages from all corners of the world. The research objective is to find how the use of Google Translate in improving students' writing in recount text and find the students perception on google translate to improve their writing skills. The research employed descriptive qualitative research. The instrument it conducted observation, interviews and documentation. The research subject was eight-grade students which conducted two of classes from 8H and 8I class. The study involved 13 students at SMPN 22 Samarinda in Academic year 2023/2024 as participant, it aims the writing of recount text found 4 problems from capitalization, spelling, punctuation and writing structure. The role of google translate provides assistance to students on how to improve and help students in writing. Then the next finding is how the use of Google Translate has received a positive response so that students feel that its use, although it has shortcomings, will still be used according to the students' own needs. Because for students, the use google translate is considered based on the frequency of students using Google Translate, either often or sometimes. ,conditional or none. This is what creates several perceptions from students themselves regarding the use of Google Translate.
