This research was guided by Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the first supervisor and Anis Komariah, M.Pd as the second supervisor. Reading comprehension is one of the most important skills for students to have., but it does not rule out the possibility that there are still some students who are still lacking in reading comprehension, this is due to a lack of motivation to improve their reading comprehension skills. This can affect the learning process, students find it difficult to understand the content of reading, and difficulty in determining the main sentence of reading and explanatory sentences. This study aims to determine the perception of the importance of reading comprehension among fourth semester students at UINSI Samarinda. This research uses qualitative research methods. The subject of this research was students at fourth semester on English language study programme. The data were collected techniques in the form of observation sheet and interview guidelines. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that students' perceptions on reading comprehension are one of the very important abilities possessed by students. Students who have reading comprehension skills can easily determine the main idea in a reading text, understand the meaning of words in a reading, determine statements that are not in accordance with the content of the reading, explain the meaning of the reading that has been read, determine the theme in the reading text, interpret the terms in the reading text according to the context of the sentence, summarize the content of the reading by understanding the main idea of each paragraph. However, there are also students who find it difficult to understand the meaning in a reading passage, and also difficulty in making conclusions.
