This research is under the guidance of Ms. Rostanti Toba, M. Pd as the first advisor and Ms. Widya Noviana Noor, M. Pd as the second advisor.
Reading interest is one of factor which influences students’ reading comprehension. This research aims to measure students’ reading interest, students’ reading comprehension and to find out whether there is a correlation between students’ reading interest and their reading comprehension at tenth grade of SMKN 8 Samarinda.
In this research, the researcher used quantitative research. The design of the research was correlational. The population was the tenth grade students. The samples were 95 students chosen through cluster random sampling technique. In the data collection, the researcher employed questionnaire consisted of 30 statements to assess students’ reading interest and for students’ reading comprehension the researcher used students’ score obtained from the result of their reading comprehension test consisted of 40 multiple choice questions. The data was analyzed used SPSS 23.
The result of this data showed that the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient which is “r” 0.235 was higher than ????????ab???????? 0.202 (0.235 > 0.202). Theresult also showed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.022, that is smaller than 0.05 (0.022 <0.05). It means that there is correlation between students’ reading interest and students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade of SMKN 8 Samarinda in academic year 2023/2024. The correlation that occurs is positive and the category correlation in weak category because coefficient interval between 0.20-0.399. From this research, reading interest and reading comprehension at tenth grade students were in medium category.
