Pd as the first advisor and Ms. Anis Komariah, M. Pd as the second advisor.
This research has a background of teacher who often mix Indonesian and English while teaching and during the learning process in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to find out what types of code-mixing are used by teacher and to find out students’ responses from the use of code- mixing by teacher.
This research method is descriptive qualitative in nature, with data obtained through classroom observation with the use of audio recorder and interview. The subjects of this research were the English teacher and 10th grade students of SMK Farmasi Samarinda.
The results of the research obtained are that there are 68 data from the use of code-mixing by teacher where the types of code-mixing used comes from hoffman’s theory which consists of intra-sentential code-mixing, intra-lexical code-mixing and involving a change in pronunciation. The most widely used is intra-sentential code-mixing. Students also gave positive responses to the use of code-mixing by English teacher. Students like the use of code-mixing by the teacher because it can facilitate their understanding during learning process and can also increase their understanding of vocabulary in English.
