Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris State Islamic University Samarinda. This research was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Umar Fauzan, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the first supervisor, and Miss. Nadia Sya'ya, M.P.d, M.TESOL., as the second supervisor.
Figurative language is a type of language that focuses on the use of words or diction in an unusual way to convey a complex meaning or an interesting comparison to add an aesthetic impression to a literary work. This is also used by Rupi Kaur in writing the book “Milk and Honey” which contains poetry about his life’s journey through various types of events that give the impression of being sad and happy.
This research used a qualitative-descriptive approach. The key instrument of this research is analysis of figurative language. The data used is the form of words and sentences in poetry that contain figurative language. Data is collected from books and then processed using analytical techniques. Credibility is triangulated to ascertain the true, namely: source, technique, and time.
According to the findings of the study, Rupi Kaur’s book “Milk and Honey” which is based on Laurence Perrine’s theory, contains 12 different types of figurative language. The researcher discovered a total of 21 poems in Rupi Kaur's book "Milk and Honey" that used figurative language by Laurence Perrine’s theory.
